Dangal : The 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has created an unrepresented landmark in China today by becoming the 33rd film in Chinese cinema history to cross one Billion RMB, which in Indian currency amounts to about Rs 1000 crore

The wrestling drama, which has broke major box office records. "It is an unprecedented success for an Indian film industry and important landmark, making Dangal a super hit Indian film," and "Dangal is still playing in about 9000 screens" said Prasad Shetty, partner of Strategic Alliance a Chinese firm promoting Indian films in China for the past few years. Aamir Khan's film "PK" too was successful in China.

Chinese critics have praised Dangal, which still enjoys a record 9.8 rating on the most widely used Chinese ticketing app, Maoyan, and have noted that the film's grappling with patriarchy and familial relationships have resonated deeply with Chinese movie-goers. The film was a blockbuster in India. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, it stars newcomers Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Sakshi Tanwar in lead roles.
