The 69th edition of the highly reputed Edinburg International Film Festival is scheduled from June 17th – 28th, 2015. The festival is considered to be one of the top notch film events in the continent, and it will be blessed with the presence of some eminent personalities in World Cinema. The recent news from the corner is regarding screening documentary, ‘The Closer We Get‘ in this year’s festival.

The screening is expected to take place on June 18th, and it will mark the European Premiere of this documentary. Karen Guthrie has directed this film, and it is produced by Guthrie and Nina Pope.

The documentary was recently screened at the HotDocs Toronto, and there, it won the Best International Feature Documentary Award.

The documentary is basically an autobiographical picture of the director himself. Guthrie returns to his home to take care of her mother Ann after she suffers from a stroke. At this juncture, he faces his father who is separated from Ann long back.

The director faced problems in funding the movie during the initial days, and at this time, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Splice and 333 Indiegogo funders helped him to meet the needs.

The documentary will have its UK release on September.

AFI Docs

The 13th edition of AFI DOCS is scheduled from June 17th – 21st in Washington DC and Silverspring, Maryland. The recent news from this corner is regarding the finalization of film slates at this year’s festival. The festival officials recently confirmed that ‘Best of Enemies‘ directed by Morgan Neville and Robert Gordon will open this year’s festival.

The documentary will showcase a series of debates which happened between Gore Vidal and William F Buckley Jr, during the summer of 1968.

Stanley Nelson, renowned American Documentary filmmaker will be honored with the Charles Guggenheim award, and it will be presented at the National Archives’ William G McGowan Theater on June 19.

The films which are included in the spot light screening lineup includes, ‘The Armor of Light‘ directed by Abigail Disney, David Holbrooke’s ‘The Diplomat’, ‘First and 17′ directed by Brad Horn and Greg Whitley‘s ‘Most Likely to Succeed‘. After the spotlight screenings, extended Q&A along with panel discussions will be conducted.

Dawn Porter’s ‘Rise: The Promise Of My Brother’s Keeper’, will be screened on June 18. ‘Salam Neighbor’ directed by Chris Temple and Zach Ingrasci will be also screened in the festival.

Annemarie Jacir unveils details of her next

Renowned Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir has revealed the details of her next movie. The movie which is titled, ‘Wajib‘ will showcase the life of an estranged father who tries to reconnect with his son.

“It’s a dark comedy about the relationship between a father and son, who has returned home after a long absence”, said Annemarie.

The film will portray a story in the backdrop of one day, and the incidents will take place in the City of Nazreth. As per Annemarie, the film is loaded with lots of dark humor.

“The film will also touch on the situation of Palestinians – the economic and social implications — but not in an overtly obvious way”, added Annemarie.

The director is in Cannes now, and she is busy talking to potential co-producing partners and sales companies for this new movie.

Ossama Bawardi, a long term collaborator of the director is producing this flick. Saleh Bakri has been reportedly signed to play the lead role in the movie.

Apart from this new venture, Annemarie is also busy with another movie, ‘Trojan Woman’ in which she does the role of co producer. The movie is being directed by Dictynna Hood, and it will showcase the impact of war on women.

As per reports, a biopic film based on the life of Nobel Prize winner and Legendary Diplomat Dag Hammarskjold is getting ready. The pre production works of the movie have already been started. The movie will be directed by Per Fly. Film Vast will be producing this flick.

Per Fly has already proved his expertise in directing biopic movies, as his film ‘Waltz for Monica’, a biopic of Swedish jazz star Monica Zetterlund was a critical and commercial success.

The makers of the movie has titled this project, ‘The Killing of Hammarskjold’. The movie will showcase the life of Dag Hammarskjold during his tenure as the Secretary General of the United Nations.

“Dag Hammarskjold belongs to the prominent leaders in our history who lost their lives in their pursuit of freedom and desire to make a difference in the world. We want to capture the real Dag Hammarskjold, a truth-loving person placed in an impossible situation bordered by violence and deceit”, said Per Fly.

If everything goes well, the shooting of the film will start by the first quarter of 2017.

 

 

 

SIFF-Seattle-International-Film-Festival

The 2015 edition of the much reputed Seattle International Film Festival is scheduled from May 14th – June 7th. Like its previous years, this years festival too will bring films and film makers from all corners of the world under one roof. One of the main highlights of this festival is its opening night gala.

The opening night gala at Seattle is widely considered as the biggest and best party of the year. The festival will open with the screening of ‘Spy’ directed by Paul Feig. The director will be present in the party which will be conducted after the movie at Exhibition Hall. The party is expected to be filled with fun, thrill, delicious food, cocktail and dancing.

‘Spy’ showcases the story of a CIA Specially trained ladyy agent who spends most of her life as a desk jockey. But once, when her boss gets assassinated, she starts her first operation as an undercover agent.

A special screening of the movie, ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl’ is organized on the Saturday night film and party which is scheduled on May 16. Director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon scheduled to attend.

‘THE SECOND MOTHER’ will be screened at the Renton Opening Night, and actor Camila Mardila is scheduled to attend the event.

‘People Places and Things’ will be screened at the second week Saturday party. Actor Jeamine Clement will attend the event at the Kaspars. ‘EISENSTEIN IN GUANAJUATO‘ will be screened in the third weelk Saturday night film and party.

 

 

R J Mitte to be honored at the Heller Awards

This year’s Heller Awards ceremony is scheduled on May 28th, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, Century City. The Annual Heller Awards is named after Liberace’s late manager Seymour Heller, and it recognizes managers, agents and casting directors in the entertainment industry. The recent news from the corner is regarding the honor which will be given to actor R J Mitte during the award function.

R J Mitte is known for his role in the movie, ‘Breaking Bad’ directed by Vince Gilligan. Mitte enacted the role of Walter White‘s son who has some kind of cerebral palsy. In the real life too, the actor has the same problem.

The character portrayal of R J Mitte is well received by the critics and audiences upon the airing of the TV Series. The series ended in 2013 and from then he started works of his other acting commitments. The actor will next appear in a movie which is titled, ‘Whos Driving Doug’.

Vanessa Williams Gets Married With Jim Skrip

Vanessa Williams the singer actress and her fiancé Jim Skrip tied the knot in New York Saturday in front of their family and friends, her rep confirmed to the media on Sunday.

The 52 Year- old actress previously boasted about Skrip- who she met during a vacation in Egypt nearly three years ago- and how he “accepted me for who I was”.

The “Ugly Betty” alum has been married twice before. First to her former manager Roman Harvey from 1987 to 1997, who she has three children with, followed by former NBA player Rick Fox, who she married in 1999 before divorcing five years later. Williams also has one child with Fox.

But after her “first three-hour date” with Skrip, the pair fell for each other and got engaged after just over a year of dating.

Williams first announced she was getting married for the third time during an appearance on the now-canceled “Queen Latifah Show.”

“I just got engaged a couple weeks ago, “she gushed in September after Latifah pointed out the bling Williams was sporting.

“You go across the world to find somebody who’s six hours away,” she added.

Williams wasn’t the only celebrity to tie the knot on America’s birthday.

Billy Joel wedded his 33 year old pregnant girl friend, Alexis Roderick, , in a surprise ceremony during their annual Independence Day party on the famed musicians Long Island estate. It’s his fourth marriage.

Eureka Springs Indie Film Fest

‘DAM 999‘, the movie directed by Sohan Roy hit the screens on 2011. The film garnered positive reviews upon the release, and the critics praised the movie for its daring cinematic language. From then, the film has been receiving International recognitions from various corners, and it got selected in umpteen numbers of reputed film festivals. The recent addition to this list is its selection in ‘Eureka Springs Indie Film Fest’.

The 2015 edition of ‘Eureka Springs Indie Film Fest’ is scheduled from April 22nd – 25th in the unique mountain art town in Northwest Arkansas.
